Her dedication, empathy, and warmth know no bounds! Meet Diane Dewey, our volunteer Client Coordinator. We’re beyond grateful for her time and dedication to our mission and membership base.

How long have you been volunteering at CWC?

I started volunteering with CWC in June of 2022.

What inspired you to start volunteering at CWC?

I was inspired to volunteer by a friend who introduced me to Sarah Swain’s story. After learning about Sarah, her mother, and the Cape Cod Women’s Music Festival, I knew this was where I wanted to dedicate my time. Cancer touches all of us - our families, our friends, our neighbors, even ourselves. What better way to connect with and give back to this community than by supporting an organization devoted to helping those right in our own backyard.

What’s a memorable experience you’ve had while volunteering?

I’ve had too many special moments to count, but one that stands out is when one of our incredible clients walked through the doors of our South Yarmouth office and wrapped her arms around me. She was overwhelmed with gratitude for the care she received as a recipient of CWC’s gift and for the support from our amazing practitioners. She simply wanted to stop by and say thank you. That hug wasn’t just for me, it was for Sarah Swain and her vision, for everyone who works tirelessly to make this possible, for those who give generously to support our mission, and most of all, for those who are fighting the fight. They are not alone. Moments like that remind me that what we do truly matters, and that makes a meaningful difference in my own life.

How has volunteering at CWC impacted you personally?

CWC has impacted my life in more ways than I ever expected. Being part of this organization has given me a deep sense of purpose and connection. Every day, I see firsthand the strength and resilience of the people we serve, and it reminds me of what truly matters; compassion, community, and showing up for one another. Knowing that our work brings comfort, healing, and hope to people during such a vulnerable time in their lives makes my life feel more meaningful. It’s a constant reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference. I’m incredibly proud to be part of an organization that leads with heart.

What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering?

If you’re thinking about volunteering, I’d say - just do it! There’s something truly special about being part of a community rooted in kindness. At CWC, you’re not just giving your time - you’re offering support, hope, and sometimes even a little joy to someone who really needs it. Whether you’re delivering a meal, making a phone call, or helping behind the scenes, every action matters. And while you’re showing up for others, you’ll find that it fills your own heart, too. It’s meaningful, it’s personal, and it’s something that stays with you long after your shift ends.

When I’m not at CWC, you will find me ________________________

When I’m not at CWC, you’ll usually find me walking my dogs or, when the weather’s warm, relaxing on the beach with a good book. My husband and I also cherish every opportunity to spend time with our three beautiful children, all grown and flown. Whether it’s a weekend visit, a holiday gathering, or a simple phone call, we treasure any moment we have together. Family means the world to me, and those moments of connection are something I hold close to my heart.
